Biography

(She/Her) Born 1980, United Kingdom.

Miriam Omura attended The Cleveland Institute of Art, where she earned a BFA in Fiber and Material Studies.  She receiving an MA in History and Art History from Cleveland State University. She worked as an Artist Assistant to Cleveland-based artist Hildur Jonsson. She has held part-time positions in Cleveland area museums (The Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland Museum of Art, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens).

In 2007 Miriam acquired a grant funded position cataloging the historical and contemporary Native American art collection at The Heritage Center in Pine Ridge, South Dakota on the Oglala Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation. At the end of the grant funding, she moved to Alabama to work as Collections Manager of The Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama.

In 2013 she returned to her studio practice and is currently based out of Birmingham, Alabama.

She has works on a number of community based projects through Bib & Tucker Sew-Op and The Black Cherry Tree Project also in Birmingham, AL.
